The Knik Glacier Experience
Imagine lifting off the ground, the rotor wash flattening the valley grass beneath you, and then — there it is. Five miles wide. Twenty-nine miles long. A river of ancient ice that has been carving this valley since before your ancestors learned to write. The Knik Glacier doesn't care about your to-do list. It doesn't care about your phone. It has been here for ten thousand years and it will humble you in the most magnificent way imaginable.
You'll land right on it. Step out of the helicopter. Hear only wind and the deep, geological silence of something truly ancient. Your pilot — also your guide — will walk you across ice formations sculpted by millennia of sun, wind, and time. The blue is a blue you have never seen before. It is the blue of compressed centuries. You will talk about this day for the rest of your life.

Everything you need to know before you arrive
Step by step — from the moment you arrive to the moment you land back
Step 01 · Check-In
Check-in opens 45 minutes before your departure — please do not be late. Your pilot will brief you on safety and what to expect on the ice. A late arrival can shorten or cancel your tour with no refund.
45 min before departureStep 02 · Liftoff
You lift off over the Mat-Su Valley, watching civilization shrink below you as the Knik Glacier fills the horizon. The 15-minute flight to the glacier is spectacular on its own — a curtain-raiser for what's ahead. The scale of what you're flying over is almost beyond comprehension.
~15 minutes flightStep 03 · Glacier Landing
The helicopter touches down in the middle of the Knik Glacier. You step out onto ice that has been building for thousands of years. Your guide leads you through blue lakes, wind-carved sculptures, and crevasses. Ice spikes are provided. Summer: on the glacier surface. Winter (Oct–Apr): beside massive deep-blue ice formations.
30 minutes on the iceStep 04 · Return
Your final flight back over the valley gives you one last look at what you've just walked on — the kind of perspective that stays with you. Total tour time is 60 minutes door-to-door. This activity ends back at the meeting point.
~15 min return flightThe Alaska Glacier Lodge in the Mat-Su Valley is your departure and return location. Plan your drive accordingly — traffic in the Mat-Su Valley can vary, especially in peak summer season.
Check in is required 45 minutes prior to departure. Do not arrive at departure time — arrive 45 minutes early. Late check-in can result in a shortened or cancelled tour with no refund. Plan your drive from Anchorage to allow for this buffer.

In winter months, we cannot land on top of the glacier due to snow cover and safety requirements. You will land beside the glacier near incredible deep-blue ice formations — a different and equally spectacular experience. Weather conditions determine exact landing site.

"You don't understand until you're standing on it."
Nothing in my life has made me feel so small and so alive at the same time. The blue of the ice is something that photographs genuinely cannot capture. You have to stand on it. You have to feel the cold coming up through your boots. An absolute bucket-list experience.
The pilot was outstanding — incredibly knowledgeable and clearly loves what he does. We landed right in the middle of the glacier. My kids said it was the best day of their entire lives. The ice sculptures made by wind and sun are something out of a dream. Booked again for next summer.
We visited in October for a winter tour and were worried it wouldn't be the same without landing on the glacier surface. Wrong. The ice formations beside the glacier were absolutely otherworldly — deep cobalt blues and shapes that looked sculpted. Worth every single penny.
Ten thousand years of ice. Thirty minutes in the middle of it. This is Alaska at its most unfiltered, most humbling, most magnificent. Not a tour — a memory you will keep for a lifetime.
